THAILAND – Songkran
Thailand is known for tropical beaches, opulent royal palaces, ancient ruins and ornate temples displaying figures of Buddha. Phuket, a rainforested, mountainous island in the Andaman Sea, has some of Thailand’s most popular beaches, mostly situated along the clear waters of the western shore. The island is home to many high-end seaside resorts, spas and restaurants. Phuket City, the capital, has old shophouses and busy markets. Patong, the main resort town, has many nightclubs, bars and discos.
What is Songkran?
Songkran is held annually by the locals in celebration of the Thai New Year. Celebrations for the national holiday last for 3 days, from 13 to 15 April, and take place all across Thailand. Water plays a major role in the festival and symbolically, it is meant to wash away the previous year to get ready for the next one. This vibrant event brings locals and tourists together to splash each other with water, pay respects to their elders, and usher in the new year with joy and enthusiasm!
Our trip is planned to experience this festival in most happening places in Bangkok.

DAY 1: PHUKET
Land and get transferred to the hotel. Check-in and explore the beautiful city of Phuket.
Phuket
Phuket is distinctive for its temples. One in particular that is a must-see is Wat Chalong. The biggest and most impressive of all of Phuket’s 29 Buddhist monasteries, it is associated with the monks, Luang Pho Chaem and Luang Pho Chaung. For this reason, a lot of Thais come here to be blessed. There are many different Buddha statues to see here, and the inside of the Grand Pagoda’s walls are covered in paintings that relay the Buddha’s life story.
Phang Nga Bay
Phang Nga Bay is without a doubt Phuket and Thailand’s most fascinating landscape, an ‘Out of this world’ scenery you must absolutely see with your own eyes if you cross half the globe just to come to here. The best way to explore it is in a silent kayak slowly gliding among giant cliffs
James Bond Island is a famous landmark in Phang Nga Bay. It first found its way onto the international tourist map through its starring role in the James Bond movie ‘The Man with the Golden Gun’. A distinctive feature of this famous bay is the number of sheer limestone cliffs that vertically jut out of the emerald-green water.
Wat Chalong
Wats – or Buddhist temples – are among the most important symbols of Thailand, partly because the majority of Thais are Buddhist and partly because they are so beautiful. In Phuket alone, there are 29 Buddhist temples spread around the island. Wat Chalong has been extending a warm welcome to visitors for over a century. Locals come to pray and Westerners come to learn something about Buddhism. The temple is open from seven in the morning to five in the afternoon.
Karon Beach
Karon features the third-longest beach on Phuket Island. Located on the west coast, between Patong to the north and Kata (with which it shares a common municipality) to the south, Karon Beach is the second favourite holiday destination in Phuket. The beach itself has excellent snorkelling (and even diving) spots at its southern end and is wide enough for beachgoers to never feel crowded.
Kata Beach
The pleasant bay of Kata, just a few minutes south of Karon Beach, entices and charms many visitors with its white sands and clear waters. Very popular with families, Kata is an all-round favourite due to its spectacular palm-lined beach, great restaurants, lively but not raucous nightlife and varied accommodation options – all close to the beach. From May to October surfers flock to catch Kata’s waves and from November to April the beach is alive with sunseekers.
Stay in Phuket
DAY 2 & 3: PHI PHI ISLAND
Take an early morning ferry to Phi Phi Island
Phi Phi islands don’t need an introduction anymore, Leonardo DiCaprio took care of this in 2000 with the movie ‘The Beach’ and the place just keeps on getting bigger and busier. The island was wiped out during the 2004 tsunami and despite what was said at the time, the construction just got bigger and maybe not better. However, the young crowd travelling to Phi Phi Islands seems to have a great time so we decided to check it. No doubt it’s super crowded, especially at night, but yes the islands are beautiful and a great party place!
Maya Bay
Scuba Diving is indeed the most exciting answer to the question of “what to do in Phi Phi Islands.” This is the chance to explore the underwater world and seascapes that Phi Phi is all known for. With the coral reefs, caves, limestone walls, and sea creatures, this is totally a new world altogether.
Plunging into this world of water and spotting marine creatures like fishes and turtles will be a breath of fresh air to all the city dwellers. Well, it is to be noted this should be done under professional guidance and supervision, and children below the age of 12 shall not be allowed for the same.
Home to a rare breed of bamboo, this place is definitely one of the must things to do in Phi Phi Islands. As the name suggests, Bamboo islands are covered with bamboo and Thai spruces, giving it a lush green appearance. These tightly packed greens in the shape of a heart will be a jaw-dropping scenery, and this beautiful green landscape undoubtedly shall have a soothing effect on one’s mind and sight.
On the visit to Bamboo Islands, one can engage themselves in various water sport activities, sailing, speed boating, and snorkeling. If you want to witness the spellbounding antiques of nature while getting lost in the wilderness of bamboo, then this place is a must visit. The comforting turquoise waters, sparkling white sands, and the countless number of Bamboo trees are sure to remain etched in your memories forever.
Monkey beach
Famous for the furry inhabitants, Monkey beach as the name rightly suggests is the place where you can spend some time with monkeys. It is not only famous for the monkeys, but Monkey Beach is also a spot for various other water activities like snorkeling, swimming and boating through water taxis or speedboats. However, kayaking remains the most common activity in Monkey Beach.
You can definitely play around the monkeys, but nevertheless, one should be cautious and stay alert while being with the monkeys as there are chances that they might end up scratching or biting you which might result in some long term serious illness. The Monkey Beach is very accessible, and it can be reached either a boat or a kayak.
Shopping
Tonsai Village is a hub for shoppers who would like to carry some memories. Most of the tourists shop beautiful silver goods made of Chiang Mai silver, which is very renowned for its artistry and Thai heritage. Kunstone offers a wide-ranging collection of various silver goods that make one fall in love with Phi Phi Islands all over again.

Over the years, the centre of interest has been moving up and down Bangla road depending on seasons and popularity but the ever-changing face of Patong nightlife is definitely worth a look. Of course, wherever you go in Bangla, friendly girls will call you with a big smile and encourage you to have a drink and play a few silly bar games, everyone is welcome.

Known also as the Naka market, this market is located right outside of Phuket Town. It is a crazy assortment of local and secondhand goods, interesting objects, and a huge variety of food.
